We have been lucky to help a number of women creators, some of whom are figured in the picture above. We have taught them to move towards economic empowerment by teaching and training them how to produce items that can be protected by IP, get them to the market and sell them.

This year’s World Intellectual Property Day theme is Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity. This theme resonates with the passion and work of ILaED.org, which in part targets to support the economic empowerment of women and girls through intellectual property, among other tools.

As WIPO has already stated, in 2023, we celebrate the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work. We join WIPO in celebrating these “can do” women, who have shown us that they do not only have the dreams but also the skills to be creative and successful entrepreneurs. We have been lucky to meet a number of “can do” women and accompany some of them to achieve their dreams and visions, for example as shown below.

We could not have achieved all this alone. So we thank our partners GSWIM, KilSah Consulting, Phenomenal Women Global (PWG), Root Crowd and Secure the Bag Africa. We acknowledge the support from the women who have given us the opportunity to participate in their dreams and help in attaining them. We are also grateful for the support of the Asian Ambassador’s Wives Association Geneva (AWAAG), the Association of Ugandans living in Switzerland (ASUGAS) and the Permanent Mission of Uganda to the United Nations and other International Organisations. We want to do more, with you, with them, together.

To celebrate the women we care about and encourage them to be more creative, inventive or enterprising, ILaED.org will offer different activities in the month of April, under the overall theme “Celebrating World Intellectual Month 2023.” The purpose of these activities is to train and equip women innovators, creators and entrepreneurs with the skills to use IP to make money, taking into account the environment in which they live yet dreaming beyond it. So the events will include conferences and workshops, involving sharing of hands-on experiences as well as provision of guidance for the future. We will hold celebrations in Kenya, Nigeria, Switzerland and Uganda. We will announce the details about each individual event separately. Please join us to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day 26 April 2023 and World Intellectual Property Month of April with visionary women.
