On 9th and 10th of November 2023, in its effort to empower women in Uganda, ILaED.org provided hands-on training at the above workshop. This was a follow up on the Workshop on Celebrating World Intellectual Property Day (WIPD) 2023 in Uganda, which was organized by ILaED.org on 25 April 2023, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Wild Life and Antiquities in collaboration with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), SCECK Consults. The workshop was organized by Handywomen Skills Centre in partnership with ILaED.org and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). On day one, Ms Pauleen Musiitwa taught the importance of intellectual property in protecting the traditional knowledge of entrepreneurs and how to commercialize traditional knowledge-based products.
Day two was dedicated to mentoring women on how to make creative and beautiful crafts which can attract buyers. Handywomen mobilized Ms Cissy Nagawa to teach practical skills to the participants. Other follow-up activities to the WIPD 2023 have included commercialization of some women’s products. Some activities are still on-going.
