These improved batik designs by the ladies from Gulu, Uganda, represent far more than what meets the eye. Their handmade creations tell a powerful story of innovation and creativity, while preserving the touch of traditional knowledge passed down through generations. Each piece reflects a blend of heritage and fresh ideas, demonstrating how culture and creativity can evolve together.
Thanks to the professional and dedicated training provided by Mr. Kasani Natiph Wanyama of Wanyama Crafts, the ladies were able to learn, transform, experiment, and design beautiful, unique batik pieces in just a couple of days. Earlier, in August 2025, Mr. Kasani trained a number of ladies in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Building on that experience, the recent training further strengthened skills and inspired new design possibilities among the participants.
The ladies now dream of producing more batik fabrics and using them to create a wide range of unique batik-based products, including handbags, purses, tablecloths, runners, placemats, and more. Through the sale of these items, they hope to generate sustainable income to support their families — especially to send their children to decent schools and improve their quality of life at home.
You are welcome to share in their passion and help them realize their dream. You can support them by liking and sharing this post, or by sponsoring further training for a lady. Your support will help expand skills, create opportunities, and empower more women to build a better future through creativity.
